Born and raised in Abu Dhabi, Ahmed Ismail Ahmed Al Marzouqi is one of the UAE’s most prominent sailors, combining modern sailing with the proud heritage of traditional dhow racing. His journey began at the age of ten, when he won 1st place in the UAE National Championship (Optimist class) in 2004, marking the start of a lifelong passion for the sea. From 2004 to 2013, Ahmed built his foundation as an assistant coach, gaining valuable experience in youth training and race management, before becoming a head coach at just nineteen years old. Today, he continues this role at Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, where he designs and leads programs that integrate traditional maritime education with modern sailing, ensuring that the next generation of Emiratis remains rooted in cultural identity while excelling in international sport. As the Nokhitha (captain) of the dhow Toufan, Ahmed has guided his team to more than 65 championship victories across the 22ft, 33ft, 43ft, and 60ft classes in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. His journey reflects a rare balance of heritage and progress — a sailor, coach, and leader dedicated to preserving tradition while shaping the future of Emirati sailing.
