Jamal Matar Al Suwaidi was born in Dubai and grew up with a deep love for the sea and sailing, inspired by his family’s legacy — his grandfather was among the most respected seafarers in the Arabian Gulf. In 1999, Jamal began his journey in the world of traditional dhow sailing, a sport that reflects the soul of the UAE’s maritime heritage. Over the years, Jamal has devoted himself to this noble discipline, achieving numerous podium finishes. Among his proudest accomplishments are four first-place victories in the prestigious Gulf Champion Regatta held in Qatar, along with a series of accolades that have cemented his reputation as one of the leading figures in traditional dhow racing. For Jamal, sailing is more than competition — it is a tribute to heritage, a personal passion, and a lifelong commitment to preserving the UAE’s identity through the spirit of the sea.
